Riverbed Theatre, Craig Quintero <From Theatre to VR to VR/Theatre>

From Theatre to VR to VR/Theatre is a workshop led by Craig Quintero, Artistic Director of Taipei-based Riverbed Theatre, exploring the artistic possibilities of expanding from live theatre into new performance experiences through digital media, drawing on his own creative practice. The workshop examines why experimental theatre must continually respond to changes in culture, art, and technology while seeking new forms, and shares the characteristics of rapidly evolving media such as VR/XR, along with the trials and errors encountered throughout the creative process. In particular, through examples of 360° VR filmmaking, it explores how the technical limitations of a medium can be transformed into creative opportunities through the integration of form and content.

The workshop also introduces artist communities and creative networks formed through international festivals, and examines the progression from single-user to multi-user experiences, and from VR to hybrid forms combining live performance and VR, with a focus on Quintero’s recent work, Blur.

Through these explorations, the workshop invites participants to question and imagine new approaches to performing arts creation and a sustainable future amid a rapidly changing technological landscape.
