Mathilde Monnier <Silence: Practice and Material>

This workshop, inspired by choreographer Mathilde Monnier’s recent work Silence, offers participants an opportunity to explore diverse approaches to choreography by sharing the creative process and themes of the work. Through experimenting with movement materials developed by the choreographer, participants will explore the creativity of gestures and movements, the varied energies and densities of the body, and the senses of time and duration. Using the music of Lucie Antunes as a medium, participants will also experience the process of interpreting and expanding movement. Working with the movement materials provided, they will experiment with relationships and composition within a group, as well as creative approaches to collaboration, collectively exploring how individual movement languages can evolve into choreography. By bringing together individual bodily awareness and collective creative processes, this workshop offers an opportunity to go beyond simply learning choreography—to build relationships through movement and discover new forms of expression.
