Focus Middle East

Organized under the theme of “New Narratives: Returning the Gaze,” the 2024 Seoul Performing Arts Festival explores the transitioning values of our times with the contemporary gaze (Arab world, Islam, East Asia, women, non-human and postcolonialism) of the arts. As for Arab performances, SPAF invites <Woman at Point Zero >, an opera inspired by the original novel of Egypt’s feminist woman writer Nawal El saadawi, and <The Museum >, a Palestinian performance which leads us to reflect on human desires, authority, justice, whereabouts and death. Focused on the Arab world, the workshop series <Focus Middle East > will introduce the performances and give you a better understanding of the region’s history, politics and sociocultural aspects.
