Cho Eunhee
<Post Music Theatre: Poem of Music> began from thoughts on how text and music connect to each other. Starting from poems of poet Baek Seok, Cho Eunhee expanded the scope from poetry to text, eventually reaching writings on music and stories of musicians. The play conducts diverse musical experiments of converting music into text, suggesting them as an answer to the question of the possibility of narratives created by music.
Synopsis
The beginning of poem writing
What would remain if we were to remove times, backgrounds, characters and narratives from a traditional musical play? What would a musical play produced by a musician look like? In <Post Music Theatre: Poem of Music> , music itself becomes a narrative leading the play.
Consisting of 11 scenes, the play alternates between Korean and western music and focuses on the dimensional relationships between music, language and text. In the play, musicians’ voices, thoughts and their existences become text.
The play covers sounds before language began, chants, polyphony, opera, folk music and modern opera, portraying a journey that begins from tradition to new sounds.
Based on classical compositions, Cho Eunhee has been producing music and performances by flexibly combining electronic music, eastern and western traditional music and soundscapes. Her works include <Sound Map Project> (2015) that focuses on spaces and placeness, and the <Post Music Theatre> (2019 –) series that explores the relationship between text and sound.
