Inviting us to the stage where our minds imprisoned by the fears. Premiere of the Korean choreographer Pansun Kim’s Caged, Co-production with One Dance Culture Center in Bulgaria.

About the Performance

Caged is choreographer Pansun Kim’s new piece which has its premiere at the House of Culture Boris Hristov, Plovdiv, Bulgaria in September of 2019. Caged is not offering a recipe for fighting fears but it illuminates them so that we can meet our own selves through them. As this is his first production with his own company, Pansun is excited to work with some uniquely talented people, who are interested in multidisciplinary collaborations - both on stage and in the stage production. The project is a production of "ONE for Culture and Arts" Foundation, in partnership with Plovdiv Municipality, Media Networks, European Roads and Ministry Of Culture - Republic of Bulgaria.

Synopsis

Fear is the poison that storms our minds. Our minds have the power to make our thoughts reality. As long as we live in fear, we forget that this is a state that can be defeated.
Fear is the poison that storms our minds.
We are afraid of loneliness, old age and death.
We are afraid of being abandoned and hurt.
We are afraid of diseases.
We are afraid of love because sometimes we doubt good intentions, sincerity and dedication.
We are afraid to leave this world without leaving a mark, anonymous, even on our own funerals.
We are afraid of a happy and free life...
Our minds have the power to make our thoughts reality. As long as we live in fear, we forget that this is a state that can be defeated.
Caged is not offering a recipe for fighting fears. It illuminates them so that we can meet our own selves through them. It demonstrates the invisible walls we build between
ourselves and happiness - the walls that can only be broken by us.

Choreographer
김판선 Pansun Kim

The main ideas in Pansun Kim’s work as a choreographer are the subtleties of human interactions, the exchange of energy, the games we play, the intimacy we achieve. As this is his first production with his own company, Pansun is excited to work with some uniquely talented people, who are interested in multidisciplinary collaborations - both on stage and in the stage production. People in the company think of performance as a complete human experience and the boundaries of different arts and skills are intentionally blurred. Pansun Kim first started choreography in Seoul in 2002. Since then, he has had an illustrious international career as a dancer for various choreographers including Jean-Claude Gallotta, Micha Purucker, Iztok Kovac, Ismael Ivo, Laboratory Dance Project, Mina Yu, Misoon Jeon etc. Currently, he dances with Emanuel Gat and Amala Diano. He has choreographed a number of contemporary dance performances since 2010 internationally.

  • “1980년대 서울과 현대의 시리아의 두 공간을 다시 두 개로 나누어 서로 다른 시선으로 바로보게 하는 형식이 매력적인 작품이다.”
