Zodiak – Center for New Dance
Three differently beautiful, fragile and intimate meadows, three individual artistic visions that can and cannot live without each other. Together, they form a contemporary landscape, where complexed and simple physical, vocal and visual events affect each other and are moving forward with the inevitability of a slowed down avalanche.Synopsis
Meadow, Meadow, Meadow, a triptych of no less than five director-choreographers, premiered at Zodiak – Center for New Dance in March 2015. The authors are choreographer-dancers Elina Pirinen and Maria Saivosalmi from Finland, Palestinian-French vocal and performing artist Jassem Hindi and Irish performing artists Ruairí.
Donovan and Cathy Walsh. Meadow, Meadow, Meadow invites viewers to witness and take part in the slow storms of the solar plexus, shared and lonely physical acts, many forms of extremism, a crime that had already taken place and strange tenderness. This non-story is not a catharsis, but it radiates warmth and comfort.
Elina PirinenElina Pirinen is a choreographer, dancer, singer-songwriter-musician, artistic director, curator and pedagogue based in Helsinki, Finland. She often uses large classical music pieces as companions and frameworks for different corporeal, live dramaturgical, vocal and linguistic performance proposals and qualities. She is working on contemporary psychodynamic and feministic theories and their potential in stage practice.
Ruairí DonovanRuairí Donovan has produced dances in Ireland since 2008. His practice is concerned with the need for roots and queering representations of the dancing body. Donovan has curated a week-long, multi-disciplinary, residential event and professional symposium over three years which was awarded with the Charlemagne Youth Price by the European Commission. He has recently presented a micro festival called ‘HOME,’ investigating performing arts and intimacy with artists presenting works in their own homes and is developing another one with a live art & music focus for 2015 entitled ‘Block Party.’
Cathy WalshCathy Walsh is a choreographer, performer and lighting technician from Cork, Ireland. Her work focuses on improvisation, conversation, intimacy and collaboration with the audience. She is currently interested in female fierceness, fort building and the politics of touch. She has performed and presented works all over Ireland, Europe, the U.S and China.
